Project Desk :: Office Here We Come

I desperately needed a desk in my room since I moved back to my parents' place. My room is quite small, so with a double bed taking up most of the space I don't have room for much more. I took a little time to think about my situation and then came up with one and only one solution. A small basic table with a drawer was going to do me just fine. Basically, what I was looking for was something the size and shape of a vanity. All of the furniture in my room is white so I had to find something white.

I thought that the search would be a little easier. I thought I would spend a little money and paint or spend a little bit more money and leave it as is. Well... after having been to several locations looking I came up with NOTHING. My last stop was this antique shop which I had been to a time before. It is jam PACKED with all sorts of items from different decades. I came upon this dark wood vanity... it looked just like the shape and height I wanted, but the price... well let us just say that I paid for the enjoyment of getting exactly what I wanted in the end. Why settle for something second best right? Thankfully it was half off.... ya... haha.

So it came home and I then sanded a little, applied some flat white paint, and then some satin white paint. I also cleaned up the handles to the drawer which are pretty awesome. At least I think so. They have their own little flavor. Anyway, here are the pictures from before and after. I also thought it was a good idea to give you a little intermission of my cat. He was desperate for some food. In his old age he has gotten a little crazy..... wanting food after he already ate a whole can. Silly willy.

  1. Very nice! Although it's too bad you couldn't just keep the wood. I understand why you didn't. I'm just saying that that wood is lovely. Good job!

  2. Thanks Aliya! Ya well if I were going to keep the wood that color I still would have stripped and re-stained it. The thing stunk of oldness. Plus the stain didn't look even which could be very eclectic. Have you checked out the antique shop down 31. It used to be next to were I paid my rent bill. Old furniture is fun!
